The sister visit

The Sister Visit Feb 25, ’08 7:00 AM
for Mel ‘s contacts

My sister Kristen arrived on Thursday, the day after my birthday… and she was the best birthday present that I got.  Carsten came with me to pick her up and Tomtom navigated us to and from the airport.  The first night we came home and made some veggie burgers for dinner. YUMM-O!

Friday morning I woke up early because I had a doctor appt, for my headaches.  It went really well… he said I have tension headaches that are a part of my disease process.  He said he has seen a lot of people with RA/chronic pain that develop tension headaches.  He prescribed a medicine that I take for six weeks, that should give me 6 months of headache relief.  When the headaches come then we will repeat the process.  But if the medicine doesn’t work then he will prescribe the shots in the head and physical therapy.  He said massage would help, and I said, OOO!  A presciption for a massage, YAY!

When I got home from the doctor Carsten and Kristen were in Carsten’s room playing dollies and reading books.

We took a tour of the town and then went to my favorite sandwich place (same place I took Stac when she was here.)  They have the BEST homemade potato chips EVER.  Then we went and did a little shopping and then rented a movie, Good Luck Chuck.  That night Kristen and I made some Vegetarian Chili and watched the movie, it was VERY funny and the chili was delicious!

(this is the picture from the place I got the recipe)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 (15 ounce) cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (16 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can yellow hominy, drained
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chilies
  • 2 small zucchini, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterrey Jack cheese

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large kettle or Dutch oven, combine the first 15 ingredients; mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30-35 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese.

Saturday we lounged around in the morning and then went to Karate to watch Carsten.  Trey was at karate too… so I took the opportunity to get a few pictures of them!

After watching Carsten, we went to lunch, then did some more shopping at Pier, and then we went and got pedicures and manicures.  Since I didn’t feel like getting stared at and have my hand held for an uncomfortable long time by Justin the perverted nail guy… we went to a new place.  It was busy, so they seemed a little rushed… but they barely spoke to either of us, and that is how we like it!  Weeeeeeee!

That night we went to the musical Oklahoma at the local theatre company.  The chairs were SO comfortable (Michelle and Katie – They were like the chairs at the movie theater in TN!) and the musical was so cute and FUNNY!

Sunday morning we woke up and spent a little time outside… we moved the trampoline and Kristen played with the kids.

Then Cody took Kristen for a ride in the go-cart.

It was Sunday… so we made jokes about being outside riding the LOUD go-cart on Sunday MORNING.  *GASP!  Carsten decided to make us seem more holy and whatnot by screaming… “HALLELUJAH!!!!!”  while they were driving around.  It made me laugh so hard my sides hurt!

Around noon it was time to leave for the airport.  The visit went by SO fast… I could hardly believe it was ALREADY time for her to go.  I had the best time with her and was so sad she had to leave.

Thanks for making my birthday EVEN better Kristen!
