Better Late Than Never RAK Mar 18, ’08 7:50 AM
for Mel ‘s friends, Mel ‘s family and Mel ‘s online buddies

It is not Monday…. but better late than never, right?

My last two RAK blogs, I have talked about how I planted the flowers for my neighbor (her name is Shelly.)

This weekend Shelly called and asked me to come over to her house, they are finally moved in now and I just figured she wanted to show me something.  So, I go over there and we sit down and she starts off by saying…. until you planted those flowers for me I thought you hated me.  (uh oh, I kinda did!)  Before you planted the flowers I had tired to do stuff to get you to talk to me more, but it never worked.

I said, errrrrrrrrr, what kinda stuff?

She said, you know, I am not very good at making friends, and in retrospect I think the stuff I did only made you hate me more.

I laughed (nervously) and said, Examples?

The examples she gave me were keeping the tin foil so I would come get it, (OMG!) and putting Murphy back in my house. (OMG again!)

Then she goes on to say that she knew that we had a love of animals in common, and wondered if I knew that her Mom ran a Wildlife Rehab, and then she reaches in her shirt, and out of her boobies she pulls…. a baby squirrel!

She said, I foster baby squirrels for her sometimes, and thought maybe you might want to see them.  But I don’t want to trick you into coming over here, so I am just gonna tell you….  I want to be friends.

WOW.  Ok.  Wow.  Hmmmm.  Ok.

I almost said, Wait until I tell the Internets!  Out loud!!!  heehee.

But, yeah…… wow.  I couldn’t believe we were having this conversation all because I did a silly little RAK for her.  And WOW, maybe I am a biotch?  I feel bad for being so irritated with her, when she was really just trying to be my friend.

So, I am giving it a try… we are very different, but I can see that we do have some things in common.  (like having squirrels in our shirt!)  So, OMG.  I have a friend!  And she lives next door!  And she has three baby squirrels!

At the play I went to last weekend, I told the lady that was passing out programs that I thought her shoes were adorable.  And they were!  Black with white polka dots!  She smiled so big, and seemed so happy!!   I decided that from now on I am going to always tell people I like their shoes!  (When I see some I like that is, because it would be weird if I was just walking around telling EVERYONE I liked their shoes.)  Anyway, lots of times I just think Ooo! I like those shoes! and don’t say it.

At Wal-Mart last week, I attempted another RAK.  There was a little old lady scooting around in one of those scooters the store provides.  She got stuck in an aisle, because there was an empty cart just sitting all crooked, blocking her in.  So I went to move the cart for her, and a different lady came flying down the side aisle, telling me to keep my hands off of her cart.  I was thinking, OMG!  What the french toast?  I wanted to tell her that I wouldn’t have HAD to move her cart if it wasn’t BLOCKING the aisle, but instead?  I just smiled, pushed her cart towards her and said, Wellllll…. Bless YOUR heart!

That’s right people.  I blessed her out. HA!

I saw that little old lady on the scooter a few more times while I was in Wal-Mart, and everytime I saw her she gave me a little smile and a chuckle!
