The Lake

The Lake Yesterday! Sep 1, ’07 11:35 PM
for Mel ‘s contacts
It was supposed to be a pretty crappy day yesterday, partly cloudy with a 40% chance of thunderstorms. A few weeks back we had reserved a pontoon boat with Shelby and her family, and there was much hemming and hawing over whether or not we should go. The snacks were bought, boat rented, and the kids excited, so we just decided to go and hope for the best.

Shelby and I are a lot alike…. when the boat renter man saw the stuff that we were hauling out of our vehicles and handing to people to carry down to the boat, he said, Errrrrr, you DO know you just rented the boat for A DAY not A WEEK, right? Harharhar boatman! So, we got the boat packed with 500 pounds of snacks and other “must haves” and then when Shelby and I were satisfied it was actually going to float with all of us and all our stuff, off we went!

Fun!

The boys (Cody and BF Austin) were snacking within one minute of boarding the boat…. until Shelby’s husband offered to let them navigate, then they spent almost all of the rest of the time like this:

Driving the boat

We went off in search of the ONE freakin marina you can eat at on the GINORMOUS lake. That’s right. One. All that lake and one place to eat. I hoped it was going to be yummy, and if it wasn’t? Well, that is why I packed 250lbs of snacks. It took us about an hour to get to the other side of the lake to the marina, and when I got out of the boat and saw this? I had my doubts that I was going to enjoy eating there. Who parks THIS by the entrance to your restaurant?

The Poopie Pump!

But, I pushed all thoughts of the poopy pump from my brain and I actually enjoyed lunch. After we ate we went to several islands where there were sandy beaches. The boys thought this was SO COMPLETELY COOL and tried to talk us into leaving them there for a few days. Errrrrrrrrrr….. let me think…………………. NO! Between trips to different islands, we pulled the boys along behind the boat. Pontoon boats don’t go very fast, but they didn’t mind!!

Carsten had fun playing with Shelby’s youngest daughter H, who is the FUNNIEST two year old I have ever met. She kept lifting handfuls of wet sand up to me and saying, “NO TOILET PAPER!! heeheeheehee!”

For a while we parked smack in the middle of the lake and everyone (except ME) jumped in to swim. I wanted to… but there is no way in HELL I am going to jump into water where I cannot see the bottom and there is no land within swimming distance. NO THANKS! It was all I could do stay calm while they all swam! I was begging people to swim to the side of the boat so I could tighten their life jackets!

It turned out to be a gorgeous day, there was NO rain whatsoever! Stupid weathermen! So, I spent the day getting a nice tan, reading my book, chatting with Shelby, drinking wine coolers, eating WAY too many snacks, and saying WOW-WEE! to H’s handfuls of sand poopy eleventy thousand times!

Fun, fun, fun!!
